Would confinement to bed (not just the childs room, but the child has to remain in bed) for a weekend at a time be considered child abuse or discipline by California law? Child allowed to leave the bed to use bathroom and get food, but has to remain in bed at all other times for 3 days.
The child is 14. I am trying to turn them in, but trying to figure out if its just bad parenting or abuse (as defined by the law). So I am looking for the legal answer more than I am personal opinions.
I don’t know if that’s abuse under the law but it is pretty F’ed up in my book. Unless this child is a quadriplegic he should be allowed an ample amount of time for outdoor exercise and socializing.

Are you a parent?
If you’re actually trying to DISCIPLINE the child, then make them do something constructive – like help with yardwork, or an extra school project, or clean their room top to bottom, — think of something constructive.
What you are describing is mental torture. It is unnatural and unhealthy to force the physical and mental being into a state of inactivity.
You will DAMAGE your child.

If the kid is any younger than12 or 13, then this type of punishment seems a little harsh and most likely ineffective…..confining them to their room for a day should be sufficient.

I would think that putting the child in bed is sort of like making them sit in the corner accept there is no mattress. I think as long as the child is not restrained down to the bed than it won’t be considered child abuse. But in order to get an opinion from someone you may want to call the child protective services or DCYF of your area or at least contact your city hall and they can point you in the right direction. The status of a child should always be addressed by the proper authorities if there is any questions concerning their safety at all

Definetely child abuse and you need to turn those people in….the child could get bed sores and the is abuse like the elderly in the nursing homes that are in bed all the time…please call CPS..child protective services..please call…you will do the child a blessing of a favor…
