What are the best reasons to spank a child 13 years of age or younger?
How old should a child be before trying to spank them?
What are some techniques to get your child to do the right things without resorting to so much spanking?
How might it be possible to have a child do all the right things without the need for any spanking?
Seems it is best to not punish a child at all if the child is able to do all the right things without punishment. Ideally, all the right things would be that the child remain respectful to superiors and the elder members of the family. Ideally, the child would always clean up after himself even more than the mess he might have left. Ideally, the child would always do all their homework and then some.
I am inclined to believe that there are different types of punishment before we get down to actual spanking. For instance, no candy, no going to the movies, and we could go on down the line from the less severe to the more severe.
Parents may not know how to recognize what they can convince there child to do. Just the threat of getting spanked was enough to make me run and hide.
Perhaps there is some way to convince the child that punishment actually exists for them if they are bad enough. If they see a child being spanked on TV then they might realize that it could happen to them if they get too much out of line. But, then just show them the stick and hopefully you will never have to use it.
Of course, we have to be very careful if actually spanking a child. You do not want to injure your child. A little stink on the hand or below the butt might be enough if it actually becomes necessary to spank a child.
When a child is five years or less, they are normally much easier to handle. It shouldn’t take any spanking to get them to do the right thing. It is at that age that it is easiest to physically harm your child due to spanking. Between the ages of five and thirteen the child might be more the spanking age if that actually becomes necessary. But, the older the child the more possibility the child will not take the spanking seriously.
We should always attempt to teach and guide the child with our personal example. And, of course, we should always treat our child with love and respect.

Don’t spank them, however I reccomend maybe hitting them on the hand so they know it is bad. I’d rather have that than a bruised posterior

Depends on how you were raised. Look at how you were taught, if you think that style worked, use it. If not alter it to your personal styles. Your a parent just like your parents are. Mine, lol…. Well if I did anything bad, I got my butt whooped with a switch or belt. When I got older it was the paddle. Good old fashion butt whoopin is how I will raise my childen, I have two. They learn from a good sore butt.
Those who say there “is NO good reason to spank a child” must have either 1) never been spanked and learned from it or 2) have a tramatic event with a bad spanking occur in their past. This is a very opinionated question. I believe a child should and is fully capable of handling a spanking. Can you imagine how many times you would have to keep shaking your finger at him/her telling her no if they realize that is all they get?
Spank them. Let them savor in it for a bit, then do what a good parent does and go talk to them about what just happend and why and then comfort them. My parents used this on me. I am a well obiedient person and serve in the military and have a great life going and stay out of trouble. I think the spankings were what led me to be the man I am.

There is NEVER a legitimate reason to spank a child.
It’s a lot of work to be a parent. You kids have so much to learn, and you hav so much to teach..
When a child acts inappropriately, make it an opportunity to teach, not an excuse to punish.
Remember discipline means to teach!

There is a new law about spank children. A 13 yr old if the child does not obey u then i hope she know about the Bible.
I would not spank a teenager she thinks she is grow. If you are feeling those things you need to teach your child the fear of God and pray together and know your powers over what you are going thru. Do not waste your energy on spank. Punishment now; take child to skid row; etc. Rule in a peaceful way and quiet. She is going to be punished. I hope you are right with God. A child looks up to parents for examples, if they get lost. Examine yourself and forgive yourself and the children.

So you want your child to think that just because someone is bigger and they don’t agree with what s/he is doing, they have the right to hit them. good parenting strategy. That’s why there’s so much violence in the world and fights in our schools. Your kid. If you want to raise him or her to be violent, your prerogative. Be sure you don’t leave bruises though. Here are three good questions.
1. Is the child capable of understanding they did something unacceptable? A spanking is meaningless if they cannot associate the pain as being a result of doing wrong. One should NOT spank if the child doesn’t know what they’re being spanked for.
2. Would greater pain be caused if the punishment did not occur? Children often assume that because they can see a driver in a vehicle that they can be seen too. Spanking a child is a much safer lesson in why one does not run out onto a street.
3. Can you control your own anger/aggression? If you are easily caught of in frustration or are extra stressed out, then you should not even consider spanking a child. Simply send them somewhere quiet and then talk to them once you’ve calmed down.
Solidly, never use anything other than your hand to spank. You have to hurt yourself to give a child more than a sore bottom if you use your hand. Spanking is simply one a way to draw a child’s attention out from a bad behavior, not a whole manner of discipline. So do be sure that other methods are used.
I grew up with a good handful of spanking myself, but I consider myself very well adjusted. I feel confident, loved, and happy, with both my immediate and extended families – including in-laws.

you should wait untill the child is atleast 6 months old before spanking and you should stop at 7. Always try to teach proper diciplyn before resorting to violence and child abuse.

There is a saying -spare a road and spoil the child. Unless and until the child does not develop the reasoning power it is useless to spank him because he is not knowing for what reason he is being slapped. How ever slapping /spanking is essential to mend the child. There is no reason not to spank a child provided the parents do not lose temper , balance of mind and the intention behind it should be to improve child.
Punishment /sanction is needed to every one according to the circumstances of each activity. There appears to be no ideal guideline in this respect,

The best reason, well for 10-13 year olds, it would be stealing or cursing. For 8-9 years, lying and 5-7 refusing punishment. You should not spank under the age of 4. A child should be four or older before the spanking begins. You can try taking away privligaes. OR you could talk it out. You are the ivfluence, if yu do not want to spank your child, then do the RIGHT thing! Yuor child mostly copies what you do. So if you do the right thing, so will ur kid.

Usually I only resort to spanking my children if there is something terrible that they have done. For the most part we use time out if that isn’t working then we resort to other means of punishment, like taking things away, sending them to bed, not allowing them to participate with the other children. Just the other day my youngest, 6 year old, tried to throw a baseball at the window of a mother’s vehicle at a ball practice. I ran other to get him and take the ball away and as I was approaching him he threw the baseball at me. He then picked up a hand full of stones and threw at me instead they hit the vehicle next to me. I spanked him right then and there and put him in the truck and we finished the practice out riding in the truck around the parking lot. I needed to get through to him that the ball is not a weapon and until he learns how to handle the ball he is not getting on to play with. So far he hasn’t asked for it. I also have a 11 and 13 year old. Don’t have to resort to spankings with them they listen the first time for the most part. The youngest is the trying one.

Where are you located? Most areas have free parenting classes. ‘Spanking’ a teenager can cause more damage than good. This age is so difficult to deal with discipline, the emotional toll can be so great. Most of the reason kids this age misbehave is due to the influx of hormones anyway. I think the best way to deal with disciplining this age is to try and find a time that you and he/she can be alone and talk openly. Inform your child that you want to be frank with them and asks them to share their feelings and then share yours. This worked for me, now my son is 17 and we are closer than ever. He is not afraid to tell me anything…and NO he is not a ‘momma’s boy’ far from it.

imagine when you were a kid and how your parents spanked on you.
Did that help? Does that help and Will that help?
If he/ she is so hard to teach, can’t you find some way to make them self-realize how to change/ improve?

I am an advocate for spanking. I think that when used properly it is a great disciplinary tool, yet at 13 I think that ship has sailed. If this were my child I would begin by taking a privilege away. They are old enough to sit down and have a “adult” conversation about their behavior and why it needs to change. I would try that route.

I’m old school. You spank, whip or whatever you want to call it as long as you’re taking care of them and they are living under your roof. Start doing it when you think they know right from wrong. Don’t wait until they’re half grown. I know at least by age 5. Try talking to them. When you’re tired of talking and it seems you’re telling them the same thing then it’ time.

i realize it’s your way of getting things done, but, you do know that spanking is becomming illegal, don’t you? instead, try actually talking to the child, especially if the child is a 13 yr old that’s invovled, u should b able 2 at least talk 2 a 13 yr old, they should b easier 2 coax and respond 2 then a pre teen. and if you can’t then, there must b something terribly wrong.
