I am an elementary/special education major and need to do a paper on self-regulation in my ideal classroom, however, I can’t find anything on self-regulation in any of my textbooks. I do see self-monitoring though. Are they the same?

Pretty much. The idea is to teach the kids to do their work and behave themselves without the teacher hanging over them. This gives the teacher the chance to give individual help and work with small groups.
