College instructor Chris Biffle demonstrates micro-lecturing, the crucial Whole Brain Teaching classroom management technique that not only breaks information into understandable chunks, but also has a built in check for student comprehension. Interesting to see that “Teach-OK” is not there yet, just “ready set go”, and also “Class-Yes” is not present, rather it’s “Let me see your faces.”

When I took a psychology class at the UW w/ over 200 students about 30 yrs ago the instructor did something similar and there wasn’t any drops I bet over 75% A’cd that class. glad to see the reinforcement.

This is a memorization technique, which may work for topics like history or philosophy. But That is what would I do to study these subjects. I would read half a page, and then rephrase what I have read by saying it or wirting it in a small paper.
In practical subjects like math, science, we nee the hands on and the visualization.

3:09 thats Tito Ortiz, its gotta be! – seriously though this works even if used simply to get the attention of your class even with the hardest to help young people, do not let someone tell you “this wouldnt work with my young people” I have ran this with completely disengaged students and it stil gets through.
if you want to give it a go simply start with Class = Yes technique and progress from there!

It is amazing how effective these techniques are! The one thing to keep in mind is that the depth of instruction you can accomplish with these methods is much more than you can catch from the videos. This is just the tip of iceburg!

I like when the girl got stumped and everyone said, “That’s cool.” Awesome. I’m gonna use that.

Mid way through my 1st class with Biffle I thought I was spoiled by his methods. By my 2nd class with him I knew I was spoiled. Speaking as an aspiring teacher, I really think this is a great method of teaching and learning. And the memorization…sounds hard but is really easy when taught by Biffle

We took Dr. Biffle’s class 14 years ago and STILL remember what we learned – he is by far the best prof I’ve ever had. Hey – I still know that 476 A.D. was the fall of the Roman Empire!
