I work for Americorps I’m trying to thing of different types of specialized trainings people might need as educational volunteers. Most of these volunteers work for after school programs or work as teachers assistants in charter schools. Here is a list of trainings I have so far:

CPR/First Aid
Grant Writing Seminar
Financial Strategies
PR and Volunteer Management
Tutoring Tips
Classroom Management
Learning Disabilities
Educational Software
Staying Healthy on a Budget
Networking
SCIP Training
Life After AmeriCorps-Resume Writing/Interviewing Skills
Conflict Resolution
Organizational Skill:
-Putting together major projects
-Organizing event/field trips
Behavior Modification (Child Psychology)

I should note that all Americorps workers receive less than minimum wage. Most people in Americorps don’t know what they want their career to be and need help in developing professional skills. Our agency specialized in education.

I am not going to use all of these as I am only setting up one training a month. I am just trying to figure out what are the most beneficial and if there is anything I’m leaving out that I should make into a training. Your answers are appreciated

1. How do you balance the needs of individual learners with the needs of the entire class?
2. What are your educational goals for your students?
3. What is the purpose of education?
4. What is your role as an educator?
5. What are your beliefs about how children learn?
6. How will the following beliefs impact your teaching?

a.Classroom management
b.Instructional strategies
c.Curriculum design
d.assessment
7. Since the inception of the No Child Left Behind Act, have students made significant progress overall in core subjects?
8. What problems, if any, do you feel have occurred since the inception of the No Child Left Behind Act?
9. Do you get an opportunity to reflect your philosophical educational views in the classroom?
10. Are students and parents alike held accountable for the education of the students in addition to the teacher? If not, please elaborate on why you feel they are not held accountable.
11. Do you think that the NCLB movement is relative to every state, considering the success rate in states such as Pennsylvania and New York, and clear lack of success in states such as California and Arizona?
12. How has your education as a child affected your teaching philosophy? How do you implement your philosophy in the classroom?
13. Do you think that by demanding teachers to have higher qualifications, this could lead to teachers being looked upon as better role models in society? Considering the fact that doctors are considered in high standing within the community, what do you think needs to be done in order for teachers to be as represented?
I am interviewing 5 teachers in person too. This is my back up plan if any of my interviews fall through.

*** is a leader of education because of its focus on student learning and achievement. My motto is “Children First” because children are the reason I am in the teaching profession. I realize they are the key to a positive future. Here are some ways I plan on fostering student achievement:
?Utilizing proactive classroom management strategies
?Using cooperative hands-on learning activities
?Integrating technology
?Practicing differentiated instruction
?Meeting Pennsylvania State Standards
A district where students, staff, administration, and the community members are working together is a place where I want to be. I enjoy taking on leadership responsibilities and am also a team player. I collaborate with others on projects and ideas and am very open to constructive criticism to better my teaching abilities.
I strive for betterment by seeking opportunities for professional growth which is comprehensively offered by this district. As a recent college
graduate I am quite honestly only a seed to becoming a great teacher. I believe that with what *** has to offer, combined with my passion, knowledge, and desire to grow, I can add to your list of amazing teachers in an extremely short time.
I have just told you some reasons why I may be an ideal candidate for your district; please call me today so we can schedule an interview to discuss further what I can bring to ***.

I am an intern in a Kindergarten classroom. It is my 3rd week. There is no structure AT ALL. The kids choose their centers and switch whenever they want. I have been trying to give them structure by implementing new rules and strategies during centers, etc. I am really at a loss. It is a lower income school and there is not much support from parents. All of the class is very low and far behind. Many of them cannot write unless they are working one-on-one with a teacher. The kids bounce off the walls, do not listen, are loud in the hallway, etc. They do not listen to anything! I have tried being stern and consistent, calm, ignoring the behavior…I feel bad for the students that are making good choices because they cannot do anything fun because their classmtes can’t even handle sitting quietly for less than 1 minute. There are 2 students in the class in particular that do nothing but cause chaos. We have practiced walking in the hall, sitting correctly, made up rules for the centers…
NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK! I need help! Strategies, ideas, ANYTHING at this point will be helpful. How can I get them to listen and focus so that I can teach?!
I am so tired at the end of the day from getting on their case. At the end of the day, I am ready to crash.

Additional info:
I know they are in kindergarten and do not expect them to sit perfectly and still, but the other classes are NOWHERE near as crazy and loud as we are.
They have the card system and they also have the option to move their card up if they make good choices and behave, so they always have something to work for…I have A LOT that are at the lowest color at the beginning of the day.

My other friend has a toddler the age of 2 1/2 and has some serious spoil problems…Here’s a list of solutions and discipline methods I am going to submit to her (she wants help). I plan on helping her too. Baby want’s to be picked up all the time…Solution, ignore her so that the baby will stop crying, and fussing and will soon stop with consistency. Toddler has bad sleeping schedule…Solution, keep her up the whole day (besides naps) until night so that even if the baby wanted to stay up she can’t because she’ll be too sleepy. Baby cries in supermarket or other public places…Solution, ignore the behavior(might be cry for attention) or give a instant stand time out in that spot of the supermarket. Baby tantrums for something she wants….Solution, again ignore or redirect with an activity. She wants more food or wants a necesity and cries for it…Solution, if she cannot properly speak yet teach her some ASL. Please I need more solutions. My friend really needs help.
