I see people say this all of the time. And, I don’t really know what they mean by this. I’ve got kids and haven’t had the police even so much as check in with me regarding what methods I’m using to teach my children to behave properly in this world.

I think the issue revolves around corporal punishment. If someone sees you administer corporal punishment, thinks it excessive and files a complaint with CPS they will investigate. If a child complains about beatings (even if you call them spankings) they will investigate. In most cases, I suspect that if there is no abuse there will be no problem. I do worry however about excessive government interference into our private lives. It is a difficult line to find between protecting children from abuse and invasion into the family.
