I see people say this all of the time. And, I don’t really know what they mean by this. I’ve got kids and haven’t had the police even so much as check in with me regarding what methods I’m using to teach my children to behave properly in this world.
I think the issue revolves around corporal punishment. If someone sees you administer corporal punishment, thinks it excessive and files a complaint with CPS they will investigate. If a child complains about beatings (even if you call them spankings) they will investigate. In most cases, I suspect that if there is no abuse there will be no problem. I do worry however about excessive government interference into our private lives. It is a difficult line to find between protecting children from abuse and invasion into the family.

People say this all of the time, but there’s no truth to it. A juvenile judge (friend) told me that the Court’s cannot dictate how parents discipline, even spanking. Where the court gets involved is child abuse – that’s where the problem lies.

i don’t know, cause i don’t spank my kids…if i did, i might feel as though my rights were being violated….i got called on once because i lived in a tent for the summer with my two year old…and they thought it was neglectful, but cps came and said all was safe and good, and that some just can not fathom living without plaster walls and t.v.

I had a mom who would call the cops or children’s services trying to get me in trouble for taking care of my kids. It never worked! They never found anything wrong with how I raise them. I have never been told it’s not okay to spank your child and they all understand that even the best parent will yell sometimes.
I guess I have just been lucky to live in areas where people don’t go overboard about things.

I dont know how that got started. i think it was from all the parents that dont spank. when i was 10 my mom spanked me on the bottom and i called 911 and told them she was killing me.The police came and I was the one who got into trouble. The police officer gave me a long lecture about calling 911 when its not an emergency. My parents never got into trouble. I believe in spankings as long as there on the hand or the bottom. Its not like im going to beat my child. I think when a child is spanked they grow to respect adults. I see tons of kids throwing fits in the grocery store and the parents just giving them what they want so they will stop. Its a shame how the kids turn out nowadays. They have no respect for there elders. No one will ever tell me not to spank my child. I was spanked when I was a child and at the time I hated it but now that Im an adult I probably needed it more.

They haven’t, at least not yet. I agree. I believe in the occasional "old fashioned spanking" from time to time. I also live in one of the most liberal states (CA), ya granted, you won’t see me spanking my girls in public. However I’ve never had CPS at my door, like others have suggested. Our rights are still there, for now, how long that lasts is anyones guess.

That’s a cop-out for parents to use when their kids are out of control. Parents need to take personal responsibility for the way they raise their children. Beatings are out but discipline should not be.

At my son’s school, they are not allowed to even say Merry Christmas due to a city ordinance filed in city COURT that found it violated non-christians rights.( he goes to elementary school and it’s grounds for suspension) In california in 1998, a mother was arrested for spanking her 14 yr old daughter that called her a"f@#$ing bitch" after she told her to stop pinching her 3 yr old brother. She lost custody of her children for 4 mos.You have to be delusional to not think our court system has taken away authority figures ability to discipline, educate,etc.The school system trickles into your own home also, so it affects all of us.
