Besides detention, out of/in suspencion, and expulsion?
I am a teacher and I use the removal of privileges (like recess) and detentions. I also use time-out with students where they must sit out – away from their "audience" for a few minutes.
You can also use incentive charts with particular students. You both agree to a behavior contract and then chart the success until the goal is reached and some privilege is earned. (like extra computer time).

Take priviliges away. Time out for the younger kids. Corporal punishment is never the right thing to do, It only engourages children to hit.
