lol well I filed bankruptcy and was required to take credit counseling. Its basically someone telling you to not write bad checks and not to obtain credit you can't pay back.

I would not go to one of those places that charge you. There should be places locally that do not charge. They basically help you sit up a budget, tell you how to manage your money and how to get in touch with your creditors to negotiate lower interest rates and smaller payments. For some people it is a good thing because they help you find ways to cut back and see some of their wasteful spending.

Have any of you gone through Credit Counseling?
I am considering going into Credit Counseling, but don’t know how it works. Does anyone out there have experience with it? Can you tell me how it works and if you would recommend it?
